Remembrance Day at St John's

Friday 11th November

We Will Remember Them...

On Friday 11th November all of St John's children and staff stopped and reflected at 11am for a special two minute silence to honour armed forces members who have died in the line of duty.

KS2 classes joined a special online live assembly with the Royal British Legion and The National Literacy Trust in the classrooms before their two minute silence. Reception and KS1 classes also took part in a special remembrance assembly in their classrooms.

In English lessons Class 6 children have been reading and writing their own remembrance poems about World War One, linked to their WW1 history topic this half-term.

This is an example of one of the children's poems:

WWI Remembrance Poem

Do you remember our fallen soldiers?

and how they fought for us.

Young soldiers died day by day.

We honor the torch being given to us with poppies for the dead.

The blood of our heroes never dies.

Thank you to the men who never gave up and made a better life.

We will cherish their dedication.

They shall not grow old.

Now they lay in Flanders field covered in red

The blood of our heroes never dies.
