St. John's School Council
2025-26

Who We Are

Our School Council is made up of 12 pupils from Year 3 - Year 6. We were elected by our peers to represent them in school, with a view to positive change.

New school council members are elected at the start of each school year by pupils nominating themselves, writing and delivering an election speech and then a whole school ballot decides on the best candidates for the job.

What We Do

We meet to discuss matters around school and contribute to pupil voice at St. John's. We share ideas and decisions from our School Council meetings with our classes, lead assemblies and meet with staff, governors and other interested parties.

We help to make decisions about how our school is run and take on projects that support the learning and development of all of our peers. We also organise charity events, represent our school at outside events and ensure our school is the best that it can be!

Decisions made within our School Council can, and do, have a real impact in school.

Pupil Voice

Pupil voice means we get to share our ideas, opinions and experiences and that adults listen to what we have to say.

At St. John’s, we believe everyone’s voice matters. As the School Council, we talk to our classmates, listen carefully to their views and collect their ideas. We then share these with school leaders and other adults who can help us make changes.

By working together, we help make our school an even better place for everyone.

We even work with other schools across Blackpool North, as well as groups like Blackpool Youth Service. We meet together to share our views and take part in discussions about decisions that affect our lives, our education and our community.

School Council Symposium - 29th September 2025

A few representatives from our School, Worship and Eco Councils attended the first Youth Symposium for Blackpool North this year, held at Westminster Primary Academy.

During the symposium, we learnt about how UK Parliament works and how democracy has developed over time in the UK. We also explored how voting rights have changed throughout history, which linked closely to our own council elections that had taken place in school just a couple of weeks earlier.

The day gave us a great opportunity to deepen our understanding of democracy and see how the ideas we learn about in school connect to real-life decision-making.

We also discussed local issues that matter to us and began thinking about what actions could be taken to make a positive difference. When we meet again at the next symposium, we will explore these issues in more detail and continue working together to find solutions.

Election Results - 15th September 2025

The votes have been carefully counted and we are excited to announce that we have new School Council representatives for each of our KS2 classes. Thank you to everyone who took part in the election and used their voice. We are proud to welcome our new council representatives for the academic year 2025–26.

We look forward to working together to share ideas and make positive changes across our school.

School Council Elections - 11th September 2025

Our Key Stage 2 pupils visited our school polling station on the morning of 11th September to take part in this year’s School Council Election.

Several children from each class put themselves forward as candidates to become new School Council representatives. Classes then visited the ‘polling station’ to cast their votes in secret, using ballot papers just like in a real election.

Through this experience, pupils learned about democracy, the importance of fair voting and how everyone has the right to have a voice.

Our newly elected representatives will now meet regularly throughout the year to share the ideas, views and opinions of their classmates and help make positive changes within our school.
