At St John's CE Primary School, we join together to remember the life and service of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II who passed away yesterday 8th September 2022, at the age of 96.

During her unprecedented 70 year reign, she has touched all our lives; leading our nation through times of sadness and joy. She was a person of great significance and has been a figure that represented continuity throughout many generations. May our thoughts and prayers be with her family at this sad time. For after all, as well as being The Queen, she was someone's mum, grandma and great grandma.

In the coming days and weeks, we will talk with the children in school and give them opportunities to discuss her life and death in age-appropriate ways to help them understand what the events mean.

During the mourning period which we have now entered, the school will continue to be open as usual. We will make sure to keep our school community updated on any changes according to the national mourning procedure.

A prayer on the death of her Majesty The Queen

Gracious God, we give thanks for the life of your servant Queen Elizabeth,

for her faith and her dedication to duty.

Bless our nation as we mourn her death and may her example continue to inspire us; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen
