Our vision statement is simply...
“Everyone Matters in God's World”
and we all follow THE GOLDEN RULE "Do to others what you would have them do to you" (Matthew 7:12)
As a church school we have a duty and responsibility to educate children in an understanding of the Christian faith and it's values. RE provides a place for our children to explore their own beliefs and to learn about (and from) Christianity and other principal world religions.
R.E Lessons at St John's
At the centre of all learning in school is Christ, and Religious Education is at the heart of our whole school curriculum, providing varied opportunities for children to become learned and wise. Lessons engage, provoke and inspire as teaching guides, supports and challenges children to become the best versions of themselves. We use ‘Questful RE’ a Blackburn Diocesan Board of Education resource in all classes. It is a high-quality Religious Education (RE) resource that enables every child to flourish. Through our irresistible curriculum we strive to provide our pupils with not only factual information but personal wisdom, knowledge and understanding. By embracing the explicit teaching of Christian concepts and God’s big salvation story, it is hoped that the content of our syllabus will give pupils a deeper understanding of Christianity. In addition, through the exploration of all major World Faiths and discussion of non-religious worldviews our pupil’s will gain knowledge and understanding that will equip them to encounter life’s experiences in our world today and in the future. Our RE curriculum spirals through the school and strives to develop our children’s knowledge and understanding of the nature of religion and belief. Our lessons provoke challenging the 'big' questions about meaning and purpose, truth and values, identity and belonging.
Our pupils will experience, explore and encounter a wide range of creative and challenging multi-sensory activities throughout their school journey. Through an open investigative enquiry approach our pupils will be given the sense of being on a quest of discovery. A key feature of our syllabus is the large number of big questions included in each unit. The purpose of these questions is to give pupils opportunity to investigate, reflect, evaluate and make meaning.
In doing so they will discover more about themselves, their relationships with others, their relationship with the world around them and their relationship with God.
