Good morning Class 3.
I hope that you are looking after yourselves and staying safe!
Here is the link to videos about how (some people think) the pyramids were built. I know that lots of you wanted to watch the rest of them, so here they are!

Mr Thorpe today I have done pe. Then I read to my mummy and I did some maths and art. I'm missing you and my friends
Hi Mr Thorpe
I have tried on different devices to get onto easimaths
TT rockstar and it just says need flash player not suitable am I doing something wrong ...help lol
Mr. Thorpe
26 March 2020
Oscar: Well done! Was it PE with Joe Wicks? He makes me tired! :D Keep up the hard work with your 4x tables and you'll have them memorised in no time at all! Test yourself on Hit The Button and try to beat your score in a minute in a few days time!
Tabitha: It sounds like you are working hard and enjoying spending time with Mummy - keep it up! I miss you and the rest of the gang from Class 3 too!
Mrs.Hope: Flash Player can be a tricky customer! You'll need to look for the little jigsaw puzzle piece near the the top of your screen. If you click that, there should be an option for you to 'allow' Flash Player to run. If you cannot get onto TT Rockstars, Hit The Button is a good alternative - quick 1 minute rounds on any table of your choosing. I hope this helps!
Class 3: Here are a few really great videos about mummification. I hope you watch and enjoy them!

Hello Arthur!
I've heard that you are working really hard and representing Class 3 perfectly! Keep on enjoying what you are doing, and we will all see each other soon!
Hello Class 3!
Mrs. Hardisty has found, and wants to share with you all, a wonderful website...
... It's called Elevenses with David Walliams. Each day you will be able to listen to a new story by David Walliams (read by him, too!).
https://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/elevenses/
You don't have to download SoundCloud to listen to the stories. There is an option to listen in your browser.
I hope you enjoy them!

Hello Class 3
I hope you are all keeping OK. What have you been doing to keep busy? Have any of you painted any rainbows? ????. My children used chalk to draw a big rainbow on out gate. Last night we stood outside our house and clapped, did you? How did it make you feel? It made me feel happy, especially seeing all my neighbours too.
I really miss you guys, let me know what you've been up to. Looking forward to hearing from you soon ????

Hello Mrs. Tiribocchi,
I am well - thank you :) We have been very busy doing lots of things, I wonder how there was ever any time for school or work :) I did a giant rainbow for our window- I'll ask Mummy to send a picture. We also clapped, I liked the fireworks; they made me feel happy too.
I look forward to seeing you all soon

Good Morning everyone,
Well it's Palm Sunday today, as you know, this is the day that Jesus went to Jerusalem on a donkey and people were so happy to see him they lay long leaves in his path and realised that he was King of the Lord.
Usually I would be at church, walking around the streets with all the congregation, being led by a donkey to symbolise Jesus's procession.
Did you know that every donkey has a cross on their back? Many people believe this is a sign from God.
Anyway today I can't go to church, instead I have hung some green leaves on my front door to remind people what a special day it is today.
By the way, I didn't realise that emojis turned into question marks on these blogs, I'm even beginning to miss emojis (I'd have put a laughing one here if I could !) xx

Hello Oscar, your picture sounds awesome, when I see rainbows I always think of your coat.
I am really happy to hear that you are keeping busy. Enjoy making lots of precious memories with your family x

Happy Easter everyone! I hope that you're having a nice time.

14 April 2020
Hi Mrs Tirribocci
I've painted lots of rainbows for our windows in the church. On Palm Sunday we got shown how to make a cross out of paper I did a prayer on mine and mummy put it in the window with the rainbows. I made some cakes and biscuits with mummy and flowers out of paper and I gave them to my neighbours in case they are sad
I like being at home with mummy because I feel scared and worried mummy and me and my friends will get poorly and I miss my friends and teachers lots
Mr. Thorpe
15 April 2020
Hello everyone!
I hope that you all had a lovely Easter (and have eaten plenty of chocolate :D)!
Last week in school we played a great game using just a pen, a piece of paper and our NAMES!
Here's the game (you can play by yourself, or with members of your family too):
1.Write your first and last name in the middle of a blank piece of paper.
2. Make as many (real) words as you can using ONLY the letters that appear in your name.
Scores: 5 = OK / 10 = GOOD / 20 = GREAT / 50 = AMAZING
(Tip: If you are struggling, add in your middle name if you have one).
I hope that you enjoy playing the game. Post some of your scores on here and maybe share some of the amazing words that you managed to make.
Stay safe!

Hello Year 3, hope you are all OK and keeping yourselves busy. Did you get lots of Easter Eggs? Hasn't the weather been great? Hope you managed to get some fresh air on your daily exercise, it really makes you feel good :)!
Thank you for replying Tabs, it was great to hear from you. I bet your windows look awesome.
Hey guys, there is no need to feel scared or worried, we know how to prevent getting them pesky germs! We just need to regularly wash our hands with soap for 20 seconds and keep our distance from people when we go out for exercise and for food shopping and we are safe.
Hopefully we will be back at school in a few weeks, miss you all lots, take care x

Class 3 - Since we would have been learning all about the Ancient Maya (I hope you have had a go at some of the activities), I have found a couple of videos for you to have a look at:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTCSTUfRTMA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXgrcpmFXt0
I also found out that on the Maya activity sheet was sent home in print, so the drawing links, of course, didn't work. So here they are:

Harder - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2JTKYrHbKY

Hello Class 3!
I hope that you are all well and managing to stay safe and positive!
As part of what we would be learning this half term, we would be looking at some of the myths (stories) that were an important part of the Mayan civilisation. Although they might seem strange to us, the Maya believed them to be true.
The myth of the Hero Twins: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jojLJNn87fU
The Mayan creation myth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmCrf4acWmY
I hope you enjoy the videos and learn something new!

13 May 2020
Hi Charlie.
I am missing being at school with everyone too, but hopefully we'll be back there soon!
That's fantastic news about the Maths book! Even your second book?! WOWZERS! Feel free to challenge me on TT Rockstars for a game!
I have a game for you and all of the rest of Class3:
https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/fraction-matcher/latest/fraction-matcher_en.html
Stick with the Fractions section of the game (not the Mixed Numbers section) and see how many levels you can work from. you have to match up fractions in different ways. It's a good one! Even if you find it difficult, remember to keep trying and you will get there in the end!
Stay safe and see you soon!

Hi all,
As part of our next Science topic, we would be looking at plants. Here is a link to a great introductory lesson to the topic of plants and how they grow!
https://www.thenational.academy/year-3/foundation/plants-what-conditions-could-we-change-to-investigate-the-growth-of-a-plant-year-3-wk1-3#slide-1
Here is another great video on the BBC!
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/z9f87hv
If you can, it would be really great if you could plant a Sunflower (or another kind of plant that you might have), and see if you can give the plant what it needs to grow. Last year, many children in Class 3 managed to grow Sunflowers that grew to be much taller than they were! If you do manage to grow something, don't forget to send your pictures in, so that we can put them on the website!
Stay safe and see you soon!
Mr. Thorpe

Hi Mr. Thorpe and everyone,
We planted some Sunflowers, lots of herbs and six types of edible flowers!
We also planted some wild flowers for the bees but some cheeky pigeons ate those haha :D.
Stay safe everyone
Have fun :)

Wow, this is our 9th week of Lockdown!!! Considering we haven't been doing very much I think the time has passed quickly, do you? I am at school today, it feels really strange without you guys here, I can't wait to see you all again. Have you been on BBC bitesize? I think its awesome, my son uses it a lot and I must confess i've been polishing up on my SPAG and maths! My son has had to do World War 2 project and as part of it we had a VE Day party and made some scarecrows to sit in the garden, they made people laugh who were walking past and we got on the local News on TV too which was incredibly exciting!! We are still writing our diary and saving keepsakes of Lockdown to remember this surreal time. You are all going to receive a letter from your teachers soon , maybe you'll keep it as a momento? Well I had better get on with my work, hope you are all well and happy and I very much look forward to seeing you soon. In the meantime keep safe and carry on being kind to everyone and yourselves. xx

Tabitha: that's a FANTASTIC score! I'm really proud of you! Wow... A lava lamp sounds like such fun, and you'll definitely have to read me your story when we're back at school! I'm glad you and your mum are making the most of the time by doing lots of fun things together!
I hope that everyone has been enjoying the lovely weather that we have had over the bank holiday (even though it has been a little windy at times)!
Here is the second lesson in our new science topic on plants:
https://www.thenational.academy/year-3/foundation/parts-and-function-of-a-plant-year-3-wk2-3

Bonjour Year 3! Ça va?
Ça va bien...but I am missing our Tuesday French lessons together. It seems such a long time ago since we were all together so I wanted to say a quick 'Bonjour' and let you know that I am thinking of you and hoping you are staying safe and well.
I have been in school a few times but whilst not in school, I have taken up a new hobby of cycling. I love going along the promenade and seeing all the beautiful modern art sculptures. I heard the sounds coming from the 15m tall 'High Tide Organ' (a musical instrument). Can you believe I had never noticed it before - I nearly fell off my bike when it started making noises!
I have a little maths challenge for you - I know some of you love problem solving!
If I cycle from my house to the promenade (1and a half miles), then cycle to the Norbreck Castle hotel (3 and a half miles) and then cycle back home - what is the total distance of my journey?
Stay safe everyone. Au revoir! x
Oscar
29 May 2020
Bonjour Mrs. Hall,
Is it (1.5 + 3.5)×2, so 10 miles? Unless you went a different way home ;D. We do long walks on the Prom and the way back feels like it is 100 miles sometimes, it is nice though.
I'm missing the French lessons too, I liked to learn it. We're learning BSL, but Mum doesn't know it as well as you know French, she forgets things more.
Today, I am going to walk Bramble after 'school'.
I hope you all stay safe

Oscar: your maths looks spot on to me, but you'll have to wait for Mrs. Hall for confirmation that she goes the same way home! ;-)
Class 3: I hope that you have had a go at some of the activities from your packs. If anyone would like to share what they have been doing, that would be fantastic!
In the meantime, here is the next Science lesson on plants:
https://www.thenational.academy/year-3/foundation/plants-what-are-the-parts-and-functions-of-a-flower-year-3-wk3-3
On the subject of plants - out lovely neighbours gifted Rowan a courgette plant (Google it if you are unsure of what a courgette is). We have planted it, watered it and protected it with slug pellets! I will let you know if we manage to grow anything good!
Stay safe and I'll hopefully see you soon!

4 June 2020
Oscar, Well done on solving the maths challenge! I am a creature of habit and always go the same way home...although I have to admit I hate the uphill journey back to my house so maybe I should vary my route a little and search for an easier option!
Maro, I cant believe we’ve not bumped into each other at Stanley Park or DeVere yet! I go there most days with my dog. She loves to swim in all the lakes and chase the squirrels (needless to say, she’s yet to catch one)!
Mr Thorpe, Good luck with your courgette project...keep us posted!
Sadly the beautiful warm sunny days seem to have left us for now but we need some rain for Mr Thorpe’s courgettes and to fill up my dog’s favourite ponds.
So stay safe and enjoy these welcome cooler moments.

Maro: Not even a week to go until the big day!
Oscar & Mrs. Hall: Rowan's courgette plant was battered by the wind last week and looked to be broken beyond hope. Miraculously, it has begun to sprout new leaves and flowers... It is surely only a matter of time before the plant bears some fruit!
Class 3: I hope that you are staying safe and working hard! Here is a link to the next science lesson in the series on plants. This one is all about the life cycle of a plant:
https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/life-cycle-of-a-plant
Also, new home learning packs will be available soon!

Hello Class 3!
I hope that you are all well and making the best of things (even with this crazy wind we're having)!
Oscar and Mrs. Hall: Our courgette plant has been well and truly demolished by the bad weather. No courgettes for us! :-(
Oscar sent in a couple of photographs last week of his fishing adventures with his dad... You should see the fish that he managed to catch! WOW! If any of you have done something that you enjoyed, or that you're really proud of, send a photograph into school (if you have one)!
This week's Science lesson is all about how plants transport water inside themselves... It's really quite clever!
Here is the link:

There are lots of really good videos, games and news reports on the Discovery Education website that you can access. Make sure that you have a look around this incredible site (you can even do the coding lessons like the ones we have done in school)!
