Hello everyone, how are you all?
I have updated the spelling shed lists, this week you are practicing homophones, words that sound the same but are spelt differently, e.g. their and there. Why don't you try to find some other homophones? You could make a poster with drawings of the different words.
Remember to keep practicing your 2x, 5x and 10 x tables. Ask your family to test you. You could even challenge yourself to learn the 3x and 4x tables!
Missing you all, have fun! xx

Hello Class 2,
Hope you are all OK. It feels a bit strange not coming to school doesn't it? Have any of you been doing the Joe Wicks Body Coach? I bet you are really good as I remember how good you were when we did fitness circuit at playtime. I've done it a few times with my children, I really liked it today when he was dressed up as Spider Man.
I'm glad we have got this blog to keep in touch, I miss you all.
Mrs Hume
5 April 2020
Hello
Diana I can't to get back to normal as well. I am missing you all very much.
It is Palm Sunday today. Do you remember when I told you this part of the Easter Story? Tell your family about what happened on Palm Sunday.
We were looking at all the symbols of Easter and what they meant. We didn't get time to talk about the bread and wine. Try to find out why these are a symbol of Easter?
Take care, stay safe xxx
Mrs Tiribocchi
5 April 2020
Good Morning everyone,
Well it's Palm Sunday today, as you know, this is the day that Jesus went to Jerusalem on a donkey and people were so happy to see him they lay long leaves in his path and realised that he was King of the Lord.
Usually I would be at church, walking around the streets with all the congregation, being led by a donkey to symbolise Jesus's procession.
Did you know that every donkey has a cross on their back? Many people believe this is a sign from God.
Anyway today I can't go to church, instead I have hung some green leaves on my front door to remind people what a special day it is today.
By the way, I didn't realise that emojis turned into question marks on these blogs, I'm even beginning to miss emojis (I'd have put a laughing one here if I could !) xx

Hello Year 2
I hope you are all well and able to enjoy the sunshine, but still staying safe.
I have updated the spelling shed lists. This week I would like you to practice the days of the week and the months of the year. Remember they are proper nouns, so must always have a capital letter just like your names.
This week I would like you to watch this clip
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znJDYb_IJ1E
It is a very famous poem written by Edward Lear 139 year ago! It tells the story of an Owl and a Cat getting married! It is a nonsense poem.
Try to spot all the rhyming words e.g. boat and note
There are some very old fashioned words e.g. tarried, quince, runcible spoon. Try to find out what they mean.
You could write a story based on the poem, or draw a comic strip version with captions to show what happens.
Can you learn this poem off by heart?
I am missing you all very much.
Take care and stay safe x

Do you remember how useful it was to read Samuel Pepys Diary to find out what it was like in the Great Fire of London? Why don't you start to write a diary? It will be really interesting to read in the future to remember what it was like during this Covid19 pandemic. Remember to write about what you are doing, what you can see others doing and how you are feeling.
I hope you are getting on OK with the Whiterose Maths activities, and remember you can also do your Easimaths. All your login details were in your packs we gave out.

Good Morning Class 2, I hope you have had a lovely weekend.
How are you all getting on?
Have you had a look on the BBC Bitesize website yet? There are lots of good things for you to do and learn about. Today you can learn about Neil Armstrong as well as some Maths and English. Here is the link
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/tags/z7s22sg/year-2-and-p3-lessons/1
I have updated the Spelling Shed lists, so log on and get practicing.
Did you enjoy the Diary of a Worm, Spider and Fly stories I shared a link for a couple of weeks ago? Have you started writing a diary? It is really important to keep practicing your writing.
If we were in school we would now be enjoying 'Spinderella' by Julia Donaldson. It is about a spider that learns to play football by watching the children. Here is a link to the story on YouTube
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9639_WmGRLk
Why don't you write a story based on Spinderella, where she learns to play a different sport e.g. Tennis or Netball?
Remember you can also go on Easimaths.
I'm missing you all so much!

Captain Tom is 100 today! Happy Birthday Captain Tom!
What year was he born? What year was he 50!
How many different number sentences can you think of to equal 100? Use addition and subtraction if you can. Can you do a multiplication? What about division?
Now you are all very good at telling the time. Can you work out time differences? e.g. If you do some home learning for 30 minutes, what time will it be when you finish?
Go and tidy your bedroom! What time did you start? How long did it take? If you go out for your daily exercise for 1 hour, what time will you be back home?
Have you watched the news bites on espresso? Can you do the quiz? How good were you at listening?
Take care x

4 May 2020
Good Morning
This Friday 8th May is Victory in Europe Day/VE Day.
It first took place on May 8th 1945.
VE Day marked the end of the war with Germany and brought to an end six years of suffering, courage and endurance across the world. May 8th was a national day of celebration: Victory in Europe Day.
People ran out on to the streets, hanging bunting and banners and dancing.
Church bells pealed across the country to share the news: peace in Europe!
Everyone brought out food to share at street parties.
How do you think it felt when the war finally ended?
Look on Espresso for more information about the VE day celebrations.
Write a postcard to a missing family member telling them about your VE day celebrations. Draw a picture on the other side to show what you did and what you saw.
Make some red white and blue bunting to decorate you house ready for Friday.
Take care and stay safe x

Hi Class 2
Hope you are all well and staying safe!
It seems so long since I have seen you. However these days will fly by and I am sure we will all be back in school before you know it.
I have been lucky to see some of you at the school gate for a catch up over the last few weeks but I would love to know what you have all been getting up to :-)
I have been learning how to knit! I have gone crazy knitting rainbow people and I have even tried to knit a full size rainbow :-)
Have any of you tried a new skill in your free time?
Miss you lots, keep smiling!

Hello,
I hope you and your families are all well and staying cheerful.
This week I would like you to find out about butterflies.
Find out about the life cycle of a butterfly, do you remember when we learnt about the life cycle of a chick?
I have attached some YouTube clips to help you.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUEeu4moxzM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1S8WzwLPlM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unvZ4ZoYPNY
You could draw, decorate and label a poster to show what you have learnt.
Can you find out how many different butterflies there are? Which are your favourite? Can you draw them?
Can you draw a symmetrical butterfly? Make sure the patterns on each wing are symmetrical!
Don't forget to ask your Mummies and Daddies to email a photo of what you have been doing?
Take care, stay safe x

Hello
I have updated the spelling shed assignments this morning. Please log on and have a go. Well done to Lola, Merite, Diana, Harris, Louis, Mason, Mia and Jakub. Keep up the hard work!
I would like you to play a game called Card Sharp.
First you need to make 10 cards and write the numbers 0 to 9 on each of them.
Pick 3 of the cards that have a total of 12. e.g. 5 + 4 + 3 = 12
You can do it 10 different ways! Try and find all 10! Record them all, you could put them on this blog. I wonder who will find them all first? Make sure you don't have any repeats, or the same numbers but in a different order.
Now pick 4 cards with a total of 12. I wonder how many ways there are to do it?
Can you do it with 5 cards?
Remember the strategies we use in class with problems like this. Use an organised system so you don't miss any out!
Here is an alphabet challenge. Write down all the letters of the alphabet. Can you think of a dinosaur that starts with every letter of the alphabet? I will start you off ....
A - Apatosaurus
B -
Have fun, take care and I am looking forward to seeing all your answers on this blog!

Hello Jakub and Mum
Let Jakub work through the workbooks and you can mark it for him. I am sure he has done really well and worked hard. In the latest home learning packs I have put an exercise book for the children to do any written work in from the ideas on the sheet or things I put on this blog. Encourage him to work neatly and practice his lovely handwriting on the lines in the book. I love seeing the pictures of what the children have been doing on the website.
You are doing a brilliant job and I cant wait to see you soon.

In 1 quarter write a list of verbs - doing/action words (ran, jumped, drank, dreamed)
In 1 quarter write a list of adverbs - these describe a verb (greedily, quietly, gently)
Challenge yourself to write some sentences using all 4 types of words. e.g.
Mrs Hume quietly drank her steaming hot coffee.

Wow, this is our 9th week of Lockdown!!! Considering we haven't been doing very much I think the time has passed quickly, do you? I am at school today, it feels really strange without you guys here, I can't wait to see you all again. Have you been on BBC bitesize? I think its awesome, my son uses it a lot and I must confess i've been polishing up on my SPAG and maths! My son has had to do World War 2 project and as part of it we had a VE Day party and made some scarecrows to sit in the garden, they made people laugh who were walking past and we got on the local News on TV too which was incredibly exciting!! We are still writing our diary and saving keepsakes of Lockdown to remember this surreal time. You are all going to receive a letter from your teachers soon , maybe you'll keep it as a momento? Well I had better get on with my work, hope you are all well and happy and I very much look forward to seeing you soon. In the meantime keep safe and carry on being kind to everyone and yourselves. xx

For VE day mummy and I coloured flags and put them in our windows. Mummy also drew and coloured poppies for the windows too. We do not have any photos of them as mummy forgot.
When the sun has been out I have been in the garden practicing my gymnastics.
We have been for walks around the park keeping our distance from other people so we are staying safe.
This week mummy says we are going to do some experiments.
I am missing all of my friends and my teachers very much.

Hello Year 2,
I hope you are all well and enjoying this beautiful sunshine!
I was in school yesterday and Mrs Hume popped in to say 'hello'. She said that some of you were sending her lovely messages on this Blog and that they really cheered her up. So I thought I would send you all a short message on here too because I was thinking of you all this morning.
We love to do 'Spot the Differences' when I teach you on a Tuesday and whilst I was cycling past Blackpool Tower on the promenade today, I wondered what the difference was between Blackpool Tower and the Eiffel Tower in Paris. So I have now found out that Blackpool Tower was inspired by the Eiffel Tower but it is not as tall.
Here is a little challenge for you: The Eiffel Tower is 324m tall, Blackpool Tower is 158m tall - how much taller is the Eiffel Tower? Can you find out any more facts about Blackpool Tower?
Stay safe everyone and let's hope we can see each other again soon. x
Jakub
30 May 2020
The Eiffel Tower is higher than the Blackpool Tower by 166. I calculate it so 324m-158m= 166m

Well done to Diana and Jakub, you are working hard on spelling shed.
I have a new Maths challenge for you about a toy shop.
The toy shop stocks Tricycle and Go-Karts.
The Tricycles have 3 wheels.
The Go-Karts have 5 wheels.
Suna counted the wheels. He counted 37 wheels altogether.
How many Tricycles are there?
How many Go-Karts are there?
Find 2 ways to do it.

Have a look at this website full of poems.
https://www.poetry4kids.com/topic/family/
Which is your favourite? Why?
I enjoyed the one called 'I let my sister cut my hair', because my son keeps cutting his own and it looks such a mess, I keep laughing! I also thought the one called 'We're running out of toilet paper' was funny. Can you imagine running out?
Can you write a funny poem?
Write a letter or postcard - find out about different postcards and why people write them. Can you design the front of the postcard and then plan what to write and who you could write it too.
Have fun, take care xx
Mrs Hall
4 June 2020
Very well done Jakub! I thought you would enjoy the maths challenge...thank you for taking part!
I too love to read poetry Mrs Hume. I know we are all missing our friends at the moment, which made me think of this poem - it is called The Best of Friends by S. Jill Wolf. I hope you enjoy reading it everyone.
The best of friends
Can change a frown,
Into a smile,
when you feel down.
The best of friends,
Will understand
Your little trials,
And lend a hand.
The best of friends,
Will always share,
Your secret dreams,
Because they care.
The best of friends,
Worth more than gold,
Give all the love,
A heart can hold.
Remember that we may not have been together for a while but we are all still here and thinking of each other.
Take care everyone. X

Hello Year 2,
How are you all? I am feeling a little sad today because I am missing your happy faces, and I don't want to sit at my laptop working! But don't worry I have a plan to go for a walk when I have finished my jobs, I might even make a cake and hopefully I will have time to read some more of my book. Have you been reading? What have you been reading? Can you recommend any good books to each other? Maybe you could write a book review?
Mrs Hall, I love the poem you shared about friends. I am looking forward to spending time with my friends when it is safe to do so.
I have updated the spelling lists on spelling play. This week I would like you to revise suffixes. Adding the suffix es, ed and er onto words that end with a y. Do you remember the rule?
copy - copied
fry - fried
reply - replies
fly - flies
happy - happier
Can you think of any more? Make a poster to explain the rule, and write lots of examples.
Here is the link to the spelling play website, that I use in school, with lots of games and demonstrations.

Hello Year 2,
Mason I really loved seeing your photos of the things you found on the beach.
I have a new Maths Challenge for you today all about Fireworks!
Emma had some fireworks.
Some made 3 stars.
Some made 4 stars.
Altogether Emma's fireworks made 19 stars.
How many made 3 stars? How many made 4 stars?
Find two different answers?
What if Emma's fireworks made 25 stars?
Can you find two different answers?
Hint: It may help to draw the fireworks and the stars. Or make the stars and divide them into groups of 3 and 4.
Good Luck x

Hello Year 2
Well done Mason!
I have updated spelling shed assignments. This week you are practicing adding ing and er to words ending in an e.
For Maths I would like you to think about symmetry.
Draw some shapes, cut them out and fold them to see if they have a line of symmetry.
When you go for a walk look for all the 2d shapes you can find? Do they have a line of symmetry?
What else is symmetrical?

Hello Year 2
I have updated the spelling shed lists. Please log on and have a go.
For Maths this week I would like you to practice partitioning (splitting) numbers into tens and ones e.g. 25 = 20 + 5
Can you partition 62, 47, 85, 51?
How many different ways can you partition 65?
e.g. 65 = 60 + 5 or 65 = 50 + 15,
Try with other 2 digit numbers.
Challenge yourself to partition a 3 digit number e.g. 346 = 300 + 40 + 6. Try to partition it in different ways.
Good luck!

Mrs Hume
26 June 2020
Wow! What a hot week it has been! I hope you are taking care of yourselves and using sun cream.
Here is a Maths Challenge:
Place Value Duel
Your challenge:
• Can you make a larger two-digit number than your partner?
How to play:
1. Make 2 sets of digit 10 cards and number them from 0 - 9
2. Shuffle both sets of the digit cards. You and your partner must each draw two big lines on your sheet of paper like this: ____ ____
3. Take it in turns to turn over a digit card and decide where in your number you are going to place the digit. In the tens place or the ones place.
4. Put the digit in that position and tell your partner what value that digit has. For example, if you put a 2 in the tens column, you would say ‘this 2 is worth 2 tens or twenty’.
5. Once you have placed a digit in your number, you can’t move it! So, it’s important to think about where you're putting the digit.
Play at least six rounds.
Who will be the champion?
Have fun!

Hello Year 2
What a rainy day it is! Hope you are all well.
I have updated the spelling shed lists for you today.
Listen to this poem by Benjamin Zephaniah called 'Royal Tea'
https://safeyoutube.net/w/SNh6
Royal Tea by Benjamin Zephaniah
I went to Buckingham Palace today,
to see the where the Queen and her family stay.
I went to Buckingham Palace today,
to see the Queen’s horses and men.
The Queen had gone shopping, her friend let us in,
a very big chap with a very big grin.
He put all the money I had in a tin,
security checked me and then he showed me a picture 300 years old,
kept in a frame made of valuable gold.
I told him I had one just like it indoors
and that I may sell it to help a good cause.
A chandelier hasten price was nice,
I said my one better and it has a price.
I went in a big room and saw a big throne,
just like the one my Mum has at home.
I saw carpets on walls that were not for sale,
I met the man who sorts out Royal Mail.
I went in the room where the Queen has her balls
and in there I saw some more carpets on walls.
On high polished floors I had a good slide,
I got a good telling off from the guide.
That very big chap with a very big grin
now looked even bigger and was not smiling.
I said in his ear that I need to
pay a quick visit to the Royal loo.
It took 15 minutes to get myself there,
up on the loo door it said Kilroy was ere.
Cameras filmed me I returned to reception,
I signed autographs for my royal connections.
I left a note for the Queen sayin she can,
visit me anytime she’s in Eastham.
I went to Buckingham Palace today,
to see the where the Queen and her family stay.
I went to Buckingham Palace today,
to see Royal things old and new.
It cost me £8.50 but no need to worry
if you visit me you don’t need any money.
There’s no OBE’s but there is fresh tea and honey.
And I can take photos of you.
Where is the poem set?
Where has the Queen gone?
Name two people that poet met during his visit.
What did he notice was hanging off the walls?
Find and copy a word that describes the floors the poet slid around on.
How much did it cost to visit Buckingham Palace?
Pick out any words which interest you and you would like to find out more
about. Here are few that I found:
valuable
grin
throne
polished
loo
Can you write these words on post it notes and stick them round the
house? You could ask an adult to help you with a definition to these words.
Every time you see one, could you say the definition out loud?
Imagine going to visit Buckingham Palace to see the Queen. How would you feel?
Draw a picture of the palace and write a description of it.
Have fun x

6 July 2020
Good Morning
I have updated the spelling shed lists.
• Have you ever played ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’? Well this is a maths version of the same game!
How to play:
1. On scissors, each of you puts out between 1 and 5 fingers.
2. You then need to race to add the number of fingers you have put out with the number of fingers your partner put out (e.g 4 + 2 = 6) and then multiply that answer by 2 (e.g. 6 x 2 = 12) and be the first to call out the answer.
3. The player to call the correct answer first, wins a point.
4. Record who wins each ‘battle’ in a simple table; the first player to 10 points wins!

Hello Year 2
As this is the last week of term, and you will soon be getting ready to move on to Year 3 and new challenges I just want to say how proud I am of you. You have been a pleasure to teach this year and I feel very sad that we weren't all able to come back together. But you have exciting new challenges ahead in year 3 and I look forward to seeing you and hearing all about how you have got on.
I have updated the spelling shed lists for this week, so you can log on and have a go at the suffixes, and a recap of all the year 2 words.
I have a few ideas of things you could do this week.
Memories
Over the last year, you will have created many school memories that you will cherish forever. Capture these memories in a fun way by creating a ‘Memory Jar’. Using coloured paper you could draw or write down your favourite memories. You could use different colours to show different categories of memory e.g. blue for friendship, yellow for teachers, red for favourite lessons, green for school trips. Use a jam jar or a plastic bottle to collect your memories; you could even personalise your jar with decoration.
Achievements
You have achieved so much over the course of the year and now it is time to reflect on what makes you proud. Think about your proudest achievements inside and outside of the classroom. Choose one then design and create an achievement medal. Do this by cutting a piece of cardboard into a circle or star shape, painting it gold or sticking shiny paper to it. Write the number one on the medal and add string or ribbon.
Goal Setting
Read or listen to the story ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’
https://safeyoutube.net/w/tUGG
Gerald the giraffe showed determination when trying to achieve his goals.
What would you like to achieve next year, write a list e.g. ‘to improve my handwriting’, ‘count in tens’ or ‘show more kindness to others’. Choose 5 things from the list which you would like to achieve during their next school year. Create a poster to represent the goals. This can be done by drawing or cutting out pictures, gluing onto card and decorating.
Take care Year 2. I hope you have a really lovely summer. Stay safe and I am looking forward to seeing you all again in September. xx
