I hope you have all had a nice weekend. Have you all been on Bug Club? I have put on lots of new games for you to practice your phonics and reading. If there is a sound you are unsure about look at 'Youtube' Geraldine Giraffe and add the sound you would like to learn about. Keep practicing your number bonds to 20 and addition and subtraction with 1 or 2 digit numbers. Have a look at Expresso (online), it has lots of videos for odds and evens and counting in patterns and then games to play to consolidate your number knowledge. We have been learning about animals and Chester Zoo is doing a live program everyday in the animal enclosures - follow them on Facebook or you tube! Keep Safe

Good Morning I hope you have all had a great weekend.
I have added lots of games to your bug club account so make sure you try them out. If you are unsure of any phonics then have a look at the 'Youtube' videos Geraldine Giraffe and Mr Thorne.
If you log onto Expresso (Discovery education) you will find lots of games for maths and numbers. If you can't get online try to complete 10 calculations every day (addition and subtraction to 20) or number bonds to 20 and remember to practice counting in 2's 5's 10's and looking at odd and even patterns. 'Youtube have some great videos to help with this.

Hi mrs zinna. We hope your well, been having trouble getting onto the blog cant seem to find it on the website. Boys have been super busy we have a list of work things to do through the day we start with reading a full book(books that we already have when we run out we will use apps) we log every book in our reading records. we then do our spellings 1 section a day spelling them out loud and writing them down then going over previouse days to recall what we have done. We do a section of tricky words a day write them down spell them out then find the sounds. Then maths we do 11 addition 11 subtraction using the number line to help us find the answer. We have been practicing writing our numbers and letters so we can get them the right way round. We then choose a task from the work sheet to complete yesterday tyler drew a map and mason drew what he can see out the window. We get plenty of exercise in the garden and we get plenty of food in our bellys. Boys are doing great keeping up with all the work. Would like to work more with phonics that we can put down on paper if you have any suggestions on how to do this that would be great. Thanks
Mrs Zinna

How are you doing with your castle project?
What have you learnt so far?
Try one of these websites for some interesting facts:
WWW.primaryhimeworkhelp.com or

Why not choose a castle and research its history?
You could try Lancaster Castle, Conwy Castle or even Beeston Castle (a castle class 1 usually visit in the Summer term)!
Have you all looked at your spellings?
Can you find a clever way to learn to spell these words?

Tyler is having lots of fun on the learning apps his favourite is the maths factor. We have been having lots of fun decorating the windows, doing lots of crafts, playing in the garden and playing lots of games. Tyler enjoyed finding fun facts about castles and even looking at the one the queen has he got really excited, we have made a poster and started on his model. Hope all is safe and well and looking after yourselves we all hope to see you all soon:). Happy Easter everyone for tomorrow.

Wow, Tyler you have been busy. Well done! I must admit I too am enjoy not having to get up early!
I hope you all had a great Easter and got lots of eggs! Why not use some of that chocolate to make some cornflake cakes or chocolate fairy buns.
You can find a recipe and read it together.
Measure out the ingredients (maths) then make the cakes.
Afterwards you could write your own recipe - remember to write a list of ingredients and then a clear set of instructions- you could then decorate your recipe with little pictures!
Let me know how you get on!
Enjoy Easter Monday

I love fairy tales so this would be my favourite topic of the year!
Could you write about your favourite fairy tale and Explain why? Draw a picture to go with it.
I miss you and hope to see you soon.

Good Afternoon Class 1,
I know lots of you have been very busy on bug club well done!
I have added some new games for you all - a game to help you learn about plurals adding s and es, and some games to help you learn about adding ing and ed to a root word. Have a look and see what you think!
Do you remember when we had a visit from animal aid? We had a great discussion and played games to learn all about looking after pets.
They now have a website where you can access some free games and lessons to do at home. In science this have term we would be continuing our work on animals including humans and especially learning about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.
Use the website address below:

Good Morning,
How are you all?
Did you clap for the NHS last night?
This weekend why don't you have some numbertime fun?
In Class 1 we would be:
Counting forward and backwards every day from any given number (so not always starting at 1 and stopping at 100)
Counting in 2's 5's and 10's
Counting and identifying odds and evens on a 100 square (you can download a free one at www.sparklebox.co.uk/maths/counting/100-squares.html)
Adding and taking away 1 and 2 digit numbers to 50
And don't forget our favourite - tens and one's!!! Your adult could say 58 and you say how many 10's (5 =50) and how many one's (8). Remember the faster you can do this the better.
Some links to counting songs:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYRTtwZGwj8
www.youtube.com/watch?v=EemjeA2Djjw

Jack Hartman songs are usually our favourite when counting so why not try some out on your family.
Happy counting!!
Mrs Zinna
20 April 2020
Hello,
Well we would be starting our new topic this week. All about castles. It is a history topic.
Have you started your project?
As well as finding out about castles we would also be learning about our Queen - Queen Elizabeth 2
Could you do some research on our queen and find out about her family, where she lives etc. Does she live in or own a castle?
In a few weeks we would be comparing her to the other famous Queen - Queen Elizabeth 1. She lived in the sixteenth century and things were very different. So I will be asking you to find out about her too!
In maths, this week we would be looking at shapes. So could you go on a shape hunt!
Try and find some objects around your house that are cubes, cuboid, cone, sphere and prism shapes.
When you have the objects sort them out and make some labels to go on them.
Which shape was the easiest to find?
Which was the hardest to find?
Can you talk about their properties? How many sides do they have? How many faces? How many corners?
On your daily walk why not have a look out for all the shapes you can spot - remember to name them!
Happy shape spotting!
Mrs Zinna
22 April 2020
Good Afternoon Class 1
How are you all doing with your research on our Queen Elizabeth? Have you found out some interesting facts?
You could try to make a family tree for our Queen and have a go at making your own family tree. This would be a great opportunity to FaceTime your grandparents and check they are Ok and ask them about their parents and grandparents.
Don't forget this is a shape week!
You could trace and cut out lots of 2D shapes and then make a picture with them - remember to label the shapes you use. Keeping practicing 3D shapes - cube, cuboid, cone, sphere and prism!
Have you been able to spot any shapes on your daily walk?
Work hard and be good at home.
Kaiden

Good Morning
A big well done to Aimee, Divine, Charlotte, Mia-Alice, Tyler, Hollie and Junaid for doing lots of work on Bug Club. Great job guys!
In science this half term we would be learning about plant. If you have a garden or you go for your daily walk, it's the perfect weekend to get outside and see what's growing.
Can you record all the plants you see? You could draw and label each one.
Can you talk to your adult about the parts of the plant that you can see and the parts you can't? (A little clue...... What's underground?)
Here are some links to some great facts about plants:

29 April 2020
Happy Wednesday Everyone,
I am missing you all, I hope you are all well.
This week in maths we would be working on addition and subtraction using 2 digit numbers - for instance 25 + 6= or 12 + 9 = or 28 - 7 =
Why not try to complete 10 problems each day this week. Ask your adult to write them out for you?
If the problems above are too easy try some bigger numbers and show your adult how to draw and use tens and ones, for instance 53 + 12 = ( l l l l l *** + l ** = count the tens first then the ones).
Don't forget to keep finding out and researching all about castles and our royal family.
You could find out about jobs that are done in a castle especially by children? or why castles were built and what they were used for? You could make your own information book and send me a picture of it.
You can send your photos of any of your work to info@stjohn.blackpool.sch.uk
Looking forward to seeing them.

Good Morning,
This week in Maths we would be learning all about 'Capacity'.
In this lovely sunshine you could get a tub of water and some different types of containers. Can you fill them to different levels?
Use the words full/empty, more than/less than, half, half full and quarter?
Could you use a jug and look at the measurement on the side? What does it say?
Can you measure out some liquid and then tell your adult how many litres or millilitres you have?
This is a good activity to do together:
NRich: Compare the Cups
Age 5 to 7
For this challenge, you will need lots of different size cups.
Which might you choose if you wanted a lot to drink? Why?
Which one would you choose if you did not want a lot to drink? Why?
Could you arrange the cups in a line from the one that holds the most liquid to the one that holds the least liquid?
How will you test whether you are right?
Let me know how you get on and send me some photos.

Good Morning Class 1
What beautiful weather we are having I hope you are enjoying the sunshine.
It is VE day this weekend so I am going to give you a mini research project. Can you find out about VE day and why it is a special event?
You make your own information book and put your findings into it for other children to read. Remeber to add lots of facts and pictures with labels.
On VE day there are often lots of people holding street parties in their front gardens - why don't you plan your own family picnic to celebrate?
You could plan what you want to eat and write a list and a menu? (DT and Writing )
You could bake some biscuits or cupcakes? (Maths - measuring ingredients and sharing)
You could make your own bunting or decorations in red, white and blue ? (Art)
Don't forget to create a memory record of the event - You could take some photos and write a sentences to go with each one, or write a diary of what you do to celebrate?
Here is a website to help you get started:
www.mrsmactivity.co.uk
There is also lots of information and some great little videos on Expresso and BBC bitesize.
Have a lovely weekend.

Good Morning Class 1,
This week in maths we would be learning all about fractions.
The language we would be using would be - half, quarter, whole, part, 2 quarters 3 quarters.
There are lots of great activities you can do at home to learn about fractions.
1) Make your family some sandwiches for lunch and cut them in to half then quarters, share them out asking each family member to take 1 quarter or 2 quarters, 1 half or even 3 quarters. Talk about how many are left?
2) Make your own pizza for tea (of pop one in the oven from the freezer) cut it into slices and again use the language above - ask question such as
If you eat 2 quarters how many are left?
If we cut the pizza into 4 what is each part called?
Here are some games you could play:
http://www.snappymaths.com/counting/fractions/interactive/halfquartersimm/halfquartersimm.htm
This is full of great math's games covering lots of different subjects:

Wow, this is our 9th week of Lockdown!!! Considering we haven't been doing very much I think the time has passed quickly, do you? I am at school today, it feels really strange without you guys here, I can't wait to see you all again. Have you been on BBC bitesize? I think its awesome, my son uses it a lot and I must confess i've been polishing up on my SPAG and maths! My son has had to do World War 2 project and as part of it we had a VE Day party and made some scarecrows to sit in the garden, they made people laugh who were walking past and we got on the local News on TV too which was incredibly exciting!! We are still writing our diary and saving keepsakes of Lockdown to remember this surreal time. You are all going to receive a letter from your teachers soon , maybe you'll keep it as a momento? Well I had better get on with my work, hope you are all well and happy and I very much look forward to seeing you soon. In the meantime keep safe and carry on being kind to everyone and yourselves. xx

Good Morning Class 1
I hope you’re all well and working hard at home. It has been a lovely weekend - have you managed to get out in the sunshine ?? ?
At school I have made some learning packs for you - there are some great topic activities for our new topic - ‘Seasides’ and I have given each of you a book to write in.
There are also lots of maths activities for you to complete with your family.
Inside the maths pack there is a number of the day sheet - have a go at it with the white board pen and try to do a different number each day!
I have given you a spelling book and a new word list of spellings to practice.
Don’t forget, keep reading lots of stories with your parents and practice your key words, (there is a new list in your pack).
Bug club is still active with lots of phonic and reading games to play.
Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Good Morning Class 1
I hope you are all well? Did you all clap for the carer's last night?
I was outside with Luna who wagged her tail while I clapped along.
This week in maths we would be learning all about odd and even numbers. Could you practice these with your adult?
Can you sort numbers to 50 into odd and even? So draw 2 big circles and write odd in one and even in the other - now sort the numbers and write them in the correct circle.
What makes 1 number odd and another even? Can you explain to your adult?
Have a go at this fun game:

Good Morning Class 1
I hope you are all well and rested after such a lovely weekend.
In math's this week we would be learning all about Time. We would be sequencing events in chronological order using language such as: before and after, next, first, today, yesterday, tomorrow, morning, afternoon and evening.
We would also be revising and using language relating to dates, including days of the week and months of the year. You could listen to some songs on 'youtube' and talk to your family about what happens in each month. Why not keep a diary for a week so you can discuss what you do on each day of the week.
We would also be talking about times of the day using language such as afternoon, evening , morning etc.
Can you tell you adult what your favourite part of the day is? My favourite part of the day is early in the morning when I would get up and take Luna for a lovely walk on the beach with no-one around.
Write a sentence and draw a picture of what you would be doing at your favourite part of the day.
Have fun and keep safe in the sun.

Good Morning Charlotte, you look like you have been very busy. Your photos are great! It's lovely to see you helping Mum and Dad. I miss you lots too and hopefully will see you soon.
Hi Devine, Mum will find the letter on the front page of the website - look at the left hand side important letters. If you can't find it please give me a ring at school this week and I will talk you through it. Hope you are keeping well.
Mums and Dads here is a great math's challenge that you could do with your child:
Give your child a number between 1 and 20 and ask them to think about
how many ways they could make the number using addition.
For example - give your child number 12 - they find lots of ways to make 12 like 6+6, 7+5, 10+2 (you could write it down or make the addition that makes 12 with counters or toys.
Happy Tuesday

Good Morning Class 1
I hope you have had a great week. I hope you have been practicing 'time' this week! Have any of you kept a diary or wrote about what you have done at different times of the day?
Over the weekend why don't you practice telling the time. We would have been learning how to use a clock and looking at O' Clock and Half past. Try to practice a little each day.

Good morning,
This week in math's we would be looking at 'Multiplication'.
So can you practice counting in 2's, 5's and 10's. Don't forget to also think about how many 10's 2's or 5's are in each group - for example 50 is 5 groups of 10, 45 is 8 groups of 5 and 10 is 5 groups of 2.
Why not try grouping things into different amounts?
You could get a punnet of strawberries and sort them into groups of 2 - how many groups do you have?
How many altogether? How many people could have 2 strawberries each?
You could try this with other objects like Lego or raisons and sort into groups of 5, 10 or 2.
Remember to ask the questions:
How many groups have we got?
How many are in each group?
How many altogether?
Here are some games to play:

Happy grouping!

Good Morning Class 1
How are you all?
I am looking forward to seeing some of you next week. I hope everyone is able to continue to work hard at home and be really good for your family.
Why not try some of these reading tasks this week?
Read a variety of books at home. Your child could share a book everyday.
This can be reading a book aloud themselves or sharing a book with an adult.
Listen to a story together, Storytime (cbeebies).
Watch Newsround and find out what is happening in the world. What did you
find out? Is there anything you need help understanding?
Create a bookmark, perhaps you could choose characters from your favourite
stories.
Complete a book review on one of the books you have read - what did you like
about it? Would you recommend it to one of your friends?
Draw a picture of your favourite storybook character? Make sure you add some labels and write a sentence about the story.
Have a great week.

Good Afternoon Class 1,
This week in Math's we would be learning about subtraction.
Can you practice counting backwards from lots of different starting points? - use your 100 square to start with then try to do it on your own.
Can you count backwards in 2's 10's and 5's? A much harder challenge!!
Can you try to complete 5 subtraction challenges each day? Your adult could write them for you.
Try these today:
26 - 10 =
16 - 5 =
12 - 9 =
8 - 4 =
21 - 7 =
What do you do to solve these problems? Did you count back from the biggest number or did you use counters? Both ways are great!
Happy Counting.

Hello Class 1,
How are you all? We have had a lovely time in school this week learning about snails and planting lots of new plants in our Year 1 area.
Do you have a garden?
If so why not have a go at growing your own plant. You could plant a seed or a young plant and look after it over the next few weeks. You could even have a go at growing some vegetables (tomatoes are easy to grow).
Have a read/listen to this story about a seed? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ls6wTeT2cKA (The tine seed by Eric Carle)
Can you design a poster on how to look after your plant? What does it need to grow?
Send some pictures to the school email so we can share them together.
Stay safe

Good Morning Class 1
I hope you all had a happy Fathers Day yesterday and you were able to spend a lovely day with your Dad's or Grandads.
This week in school we would be looking at split diagraphs in phonics. Could you have a go at playing these phonic games?
https://www.phonicsbloom.com/uk/game/list/phonics-games-phase-5
https://www.roythezebra.com/
Can you make a list of words for each split diagraph?
so for example a-e could be cake, bake, snake
i-e could be like, bike fire
Now choose 1 word for each split diagraph and write a sentence, then read that sentence to your adult.
Don't forget to come and pick up your home learning pack from school. There are lots of lovely activities inside for you to do at home.
Have fun and stay safe.

Hi Class 1
In Maths this week we would be recapping subtraction and addition.
Could you complete a maths challenge each day? You could ask your adult to write you 10 calculations - mix of subtraction and addition - then you could solve them!
Try to get faster each day - maybe solving some in your head (using mental strategies).
Try these for today:
12+6=
14+7=
20-8=
25-9=
20+8=
19-8=
25-9=
19+6=
You could use counters or fingers to add on take away or use a number line/hundred square.
Happy counting

Don't forget there is a learning pack to pick up at school with lots of lovely activities.
Please don't forget about Bug Club and Teach a Monster to read - where you can practice your phonics and reading.
We have been listening o some poetry in class. Read this poem together.
At the Seaside
We'll have a splish time, a splash time,
A watch the tall waves crash time,
At the seaside.
We'll have a salty sandy hand time
A hear the big loud band time
At the seaside.
We'll have a slippery seaweed smell time
A find a shiny shell time
At the seaside.
And we'll have a wave goodbye to the bay time,
A wish that we could stay time,
A hip hip hooray time
At the seaside.
Did you like the poem?
Did you understand all the words?
How did the poem make you feel?
Could you write your own poem about the seaside?
Why not listen to this poem on you tube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLyk9cMvNV8

Good Morning Class 1,
Well we finally made it to the end of the year. What a shame we are not celebrating our time in Year 1 together today!
What we had of the year, was great and I have loved teaching you all.
As we head into the Summer holiday why not take some time to think about the year that has been?
Record your thoughts in a poster, a book or through pictures.
What was your favourite part of being in Year 1?
What was your favourite story that we shared together?
What was the best trip out?
Who were your best friends?
What did you learn this year that you most enjoyed?
Have a fabulous Summer Everyone - continue to stay safe and be good for your parents.
I will see you in September when you are all ready for Year 2.
Big hugs and virtual kisses
Mrs Zinna
